This work explores how mutual banks put the S pillar of the ESG phenomenon into action, with a focus on the case of Mediocrati Credit Cooperative Bank (CCB). The case study analysis focuses on how Mediocrati CCB faces sustainability challenges and integrates ESG factors in practice, valorizing both the internal and external dimensions of the S factor. The case study illustrates a pilot project that is centred on an initiative aimed at evaluating the introduction of a web application to address the challenges of hunger and poverty, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the UN’s Agenda 2030. The study contributes to the literature concerning ESG integration in mutual banks. The findings provide useful insights into how CCBs can adopt an ESG approach to valorize their peculiarities as local banks.
