More and more in the last decade, female participation increases in the labor market, so as to impose new ways of managing gender diversity in order to promote a complex process of cultural change and organizational development. At the same time, the issue of work-life balance appears as one of the crucial points for the woman at work and to reconcile professional and private life. In fact, two main types of orientation at work are highlighted: a career focused on the profession and a balanced career between work and life. So, the organizations have to retain their competitive advantage by recognizing the value of both types of orientation and providing a more flexible work environment. This will benefit both the individual and the employer. The recognition that an increasing proportion of the workforce over the next decade will be women has an important implications both for corporate employers and in the area of leadership positions. The aim of the study is clarify and define workplace gender diversity and examine the policies and procedures associated with the work-life balance. Subsequently it will be analyze the impact of the policies on the women career path. The analysis has been developed through semi- structured questionnaire on the specific issue of research to all the managers of the Italian Prisons.
