Ultrasound energy at frequency lower than 200 kHz hasbeen used recently in medical field for transdermal drug transport andtherapy with experimental results better than high frequencyultrasound at few MHz. As a consequence, the low frequencyultrasounds are gained more interest in the medical field. In the paperwe review the most promising application of low frequencyultrasounds with emphasis on technology transducers andmeasurements. Furthermore, we propose a piezopolymer transducer, originally aimed to emulate the bat bio-sonar, that has low acousticimpedance to match biological tissue. It is light, small and low cost andcould be used for medical application.

Abstract
Ultrasound energy at frequency lower than 200 kHz hasbeen used recently in medical field for transdermal drug transport andtherapy with experimental results better than high frequencyultrasound at few MHz. As a consequence, the low frequencyultrasounds are gained more interest in the medical field. In the paperwe review the most promising application of low frequencyultrasounds with emphasis on technology transducers andmeasurements. Furthermore, we propose a piezopolymer transducer, originally aimed to emulate the bat bio-sonar, that has low acousticimpedance to match biological tissue. It is light, small and low cost andcould be used for medical application.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
