The purpose of this paper is to present the statistical reconstruction of a series of per capita output in central-northern Italy between 1300 and 1913. The various phases of both the stati¬stical proce¬dure and the results are presented and discussed. From the Renaissance until the 1880s, when modern growth starts in Italy, the curve of per capita GDP is downward bent.
