Balneotherapy in Dermatology

One of the most important activities that takes place at a traditional spa is balneotherapy, a natural approach to health and healing that uses hot spring water, gases, mud, and climatic factors as therapeutic elements. Over the past four centuries, the science of balneology has evolved into a medical specialty all over the world. The most famous example for balneotherapy is the Dead Sea in Israel with major indication for psoriasis. Bathing in water with a high salt concentration is safe, effective, and pleasant for healing and recovery. We will review the different balneotherapy options, their mechanism of action and their indications for dermatological disorders. We believe that balneotherapy could represent a valid choice in treating a wide variety of mild-moderate skin disorders and also an alternative or adjuvant treatment for patients who, for many reasons, can't or don't want to undergo traditional pharmacological therapy
