Il rilievo 'politico' della composizione numerica del Decemvirato (tra proposta ed esperienza)

Moving from an observation of Machiavelli, the a. proposes a re-readingof the livian history on the Decemvirate. Looking at the description in watermark, the historian’s narration would not seem to blame the failure of the magistracy on Appius Claudius’s character. In the judgment of Livio, it would have been due to, rather, the large numerical strength, for both the derived consequences and the ways and means of the electives (they did not favor the most virtuous), and on the government of the Republic (they opened the way to deteriorative compromise).

Muovendo da un’osservazione di Machiavelli, l’a. propone una rilettura del racconto liviano sul decemvirato. A guardarla in filigrana, la narrazione dello storico non sembrerebbe orientata ad attribuire all’indole di Appio Claudio il fallimento della magistratura. Nel giudizio di Livio, ne sarebbe stata causa, piuttosto, la larga composizione numerica, per le conseguenze che ne sarebbero derivate, sia sul piano delle modalità elettive (non favorivano i migliori), che su quello della gestione (aprivano la strada al compromesso deteriore).
