This study was performed to evaluate the antimicrobial activity of the extracts obtained from the leaves of Daphne gnidium L. and some coumarins isolated from them. Minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs), minimum bactericidal concentrations (MBCs) and killing kinetics were determined against 22 gram-positive and gram-negative strains, both fresh clinical isolates and ATCC standard strains. Two strains of Candida albicans were also used. The methanolic extract showed the best activity against gram-positive rods (range MICs = 390-78 mg/l). Moraxella catarrhalis was the most susceptible gram-negative bacteria (MIC = 780 mg/l). MBC values are generally the same or twice MIC values for all plant extracts. Optimum killing effect of D. gnidium extracts was examined by a complete and rapid bactericidal activity lasting 24 hours: in fact no regrowth was observed in all cases.

Abstract
Optimum killing effect of D. gnidium extracts was examined by a complete and rapid bactericidal activity lasting 24 hours: in fact no regrowth was observed in all cases.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
