In a program of researches aimed to point out the surface characteristics of the various species belonging to the four sections of Datura genus (Stramonium, Dutra, Ceratocaulis, Brugmansia), the leaf surfaces of Datura arborea L., D. cornigera Hook., D. mollis Saff., D. rosei Saff. and D. sanguinea R. et P. of Brugmansia section, have been examined by SEM. Combinations of characters observed are useful to distinguish the drugs examined, permitting not only their characterization but also their differentiation from other members of the sections Stramonium, Dutra and Ceratocaulis.
