We describe 2 patients who, 3-4 years after having developed a benign partial epilepsy of childhood, displayed a clinical and EEG picture characteristic of childhood epilepsy. In either patient carbamazepine was replaced by valproate; the absences disappeared and did not recur 3-12 months following medication withdrawal. Our findings raise the question whether this association may indicate a biological continuum between these two epileptic syndromes.

Abstract
We describe 2 patients who, 3-4 years after having developed a benign partial epilepsy of childhood, displayed a clinical and EEG picture characteristic of childhood epilepsy. In either patient carbamazepine was replaced by valproate; the absences disappeared and did not recur 3-12 months following medication withdrawal. Our findings raise the question whether this association may indicate a biological continuum between these two epileptic syndromes.File in questo prodotto:
