This study aims to extend the conceptualization of resource integration and service ecosystems by addressing the orchestrator role digital platforms enact to facilitate and coordinate multi-actors collaboration for the development of new and self- sustainable ecosystem. To this end, it specifically draws on the literature on resource integration and resource orchestration in service ecosystems. The study focuses on the “Italian Villages project 20172018” promoted by Airbnb in 2018; it addresses the activities, the role of orchestrator and the effects Airbnb produced on the development of Italian rural villages ecosystem. This study makes a significant contribution to the literature on resource integration and resource orchestration, as well as, to the platform literature that until now does not fully explain the platform from an ecosystem perspective.

The study focuses on the “Italian Villages project 20172018” promoted by Airbnb in 2018; it addresses the activities, the role of orchestrator and the effects Airbnb produced on the development of Italian rural villages ecosystem. This study makes a significant contribution to the literature on resource integration and resource orchestration, as well as, to the platform literature that until now does not fully explain the platform from an ecosystem perspective.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
