AIM: The aim of the present study is to demonstrate that the treatment of temporal and masseter hypertrophy with Botulinum toxin type A (BTXA) may be a valid and effective option in those patients who refuse surgery. MATERIAL OF STUDY: The relevant paper reports the case of a 23-yearold patient with an infrequent condition, combined hypertrophy of the left masseter muscle and of the contralateral temporal muscle. RESULTS: After two injections of BTX-A in the right temporal muscle and three injections of BTX-A in the left masseter muscle, a greater symmetry of the patient’s face could be observed, together with a reduction of tension in both regions and disappearance of the headache. In general, the patient was satisfied with the results. DISCUSSION: Even if the effects of BTX-A are temporary and repeated injections are required, this conservative treatment proves to be a valid option in patient with aesthetic, non-functional, disorder. Indeed, the treatment increases patient satisfaction and self-confidence. CONCLUSION: The treatment with Botox could be an effective option compared to others conservative or surgical treatments, when muscle mass determines a large facial asymmetry or when the disturbance is more aesthetic than functional. It is a safe, easy-to-use and effective non-surgical option in the management of masseter and temporal muscle hypertrophies.

Abstract
It is a safe, easy-to-use and effective non-surgical option in the management of masseter and temporal muscle hypertrophies.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
