This contribution aims to provide an overview of the most significant judgments and decisions handed down in 2016 by the international criminal tribunals together with an analysis of the main issues arising in the framework of their respective activities, in particular: a) States cooperation with the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia and the arrest by Turkey of Judge Akay of the Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals; b) the withdrawal of some States parties and signatories from the International Criminal Court Statute; c) the contribution of the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia to the qualification of forced marriage as a distinct crime against humanity; and d) the judgment handed down in the case Hissène Habré by the Extraordinary African Chambers and its legal meaning.
