Agricoltura e contratti agrari nelle carte longobarde di Santa Sofia di Benevento (secc. VIII-XI)

The economy of Lombard Italy was essentially agricultural, and the Duchy (later Principality) of Benevento is no exception. The study of the documents that belonged to the Lombard archive of St. Sofia of Benevento, Arechi II’s favorite foundation, carried out with the precise aim of identifying the contracts representative of the rural reality, offers on the one hand the possibility of outlining the forms of the economic and socio-legal aspects of agricultural activity, and on the other to glimpse, behind the contingency of concrete cases, the historical guidelines of Lombard law, as the result of the adaptation of an originally nomadic people to the complex Italian reality.
