The theme of social relations has always been central to Sociology: a few authors have tried to decipher them in the light of a more biological approach; others have instead privileged social action. Truth is humanity is made up of biologically determined individuals and culturally determined subjects: an inextricable biosocial entanglement that makes them persons. Algorithms and big data have recently given boost to the possibility of investigating with greater awareness and capacity in such a complex world. This could be a way to overcome reductionist approaches, through more complex perspectives. But doubts remain, both technical and ethical, that need to be addressed and resolved.

Abstract
The theme of social relations has always been central to Sociology: a few authors have tried to decipher them in the light of a more biological approach; others have instead privileged social action. Truth is humanity is made up of biologically determined individuals and culturally determined subjects: an inextricable biosocial entanglement that makes them persons. Algorithms and big data have recently given boost to the possibility of investigating with greater awareness and capacity in such a complex world. This could be a way to overcome reductionist approaches, through more complex perspectives. But doubts remain, both technical and ethical, that need to be addressed and resolved.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
