Osteoporosis is a metabolic bone disorder 10 affecting million of people worldwide. Abstract

Osteoporosis is a metabolic bone disorder 10 affecting million of people worldwide. Increased under- 11 standing of bone disease has led to a greater recognition 12 of factors affecting bones, and consequently many sec- 13 ondary causes of osteoporosis were demonstrated. In this 14 study, we aim to explore possible causes of bone loss 15 and fractures in subjects affected by chronic inflamma- 16 tory disease and to suggest new targets for intervention. 17 In fact several studies, evaluated to perform this study, 18 suggest that the patients with chronic inflammatory dis- 19 ease could be at high risk for fractures due to bone loss 20 as consequence of malnutrition, caused by inflammation 21 and hormonal change. Consequently, some actions could 22 derive from the considerations of these mechanisms: a 23 change in actual approach of chronic patients, that may 24 include the investigation on the possible presence of 25 osteoporosis, as well as further research on this topic to find a better therapy to prevent osteoporosis considering 26 all the mechanisms described.
